“10 million for 3 lunches”: Uli Hoeneß announces measures against “cutthroat” consultants

Uli Hoeneß has once again criticized the player agents in professional football – and made it clear that FC Bayern wants to take tougher action against excessive commissions in the future.

The honorary president of the record champions has been considered one of the biggest critics of the consulting industry for years. Now the 74-year-old has reiterated his stance – and at the same time promised concrete measures.

On the sidelines of an event, Hoeneß made it clear: “If a player goes abroad or comes from abroad today, he needs an advisor. There are a lot of reputable advisors, and there are a lot of cutthroats.”

Hoeneß: “Ten million for three lunches, that can’t be it”

Hoeneß is increasingly concerned about developments in recent years. The increasing amounts that consultants collect in the course of transfers are a central point of criticism for him.

“Sometimes there are ten million for three lunches, that can’t be right,” rumbled the Bayern patron.

The topic is already being intensively discussed internally on Säbener Straße. Hoeneß announced that the club wants to pursue a clearer line in the future: “In the future, we will try to develop a concept so that we can no longer put up with this.”

The long-time Bayern manager left concrete details open, but the direction is clear. FC Bayern no longer wants to be driven into negotiations at any price.

“We will not take part in this madness,” Hoeneß had previously announced

The statements fit into a long series of Hoeneß criticism of the consulting world. He had repeatedly pointed out in the past that agents had gained too much influence in modern football. Finally he emphasized: “We will say ‘no’ more and not take part in this madness.”

The fact that this attitude also causes discussions internally is evident from past contract negotiations, for example around Dayot Upamecano. Demands from consultants are also said to have played a role here.
