This comes from a database in the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) published recall, which the car manufacturer from Munich confirmed. The models i5, 7, M5, 5 and i7 from the production period from June 9, 2022 to December 5, 2025 are affected.

337,374 vehicles are potentially affected worldwide, and 29,441 vehicles across Germany, as the KBA announced. Accordingly, the incorrect laying of the cockpit wiring harness “could lead to damage to the cables when replacing the microfilter and thus to a short circuit with the development of smoke and fire.” As a measure, the routing of the cockpit wiring harness will be checked and improved if necessary.

“There are no known accidents associated with this fault pattern,” said a BMW spokesman. If the vehicle has already had an oil service and therefore a microfilter change, an immediate check and possible reworking of the cables is necessary. If no oil service and therefore no microfilter change have been carried out, there is no immediate need for action; rework on the first oil service is sufficient, said the spokesman.
