Common toad prevents battery factory in Berlin


A battery factory was to be built in Berlin, which would have brought 380 new jobs to the city. A nature conservation association sued because of a rare toad. The factory is now being built in Bavaria.

To block her path onto the site, the company Aucoteam, which was responsible for building the factory, erected a toad protection fence. As a result, nothing seemed to stand in the way of building the battery factory. The building permit was issued by the district office. Berlin loses 380 jobs and 50 million euros

Project developer Peter Urban’s conclusion: “I would really like to have the innovative battery project in Berlin realized, but we had no chance against the ‘common toad’,” as he wrote to the “Tagesspiegel”.
