Security expert warns of Iran attacks: “A magnitude that we don’t even want to imagine”

Iran already sees European defensive measures as aggression. Security expert Joachim Krause explains how seriously we have to take the mullahs’ threats.

Iran warns Europe against entering war. The background is a joint declaration by Germany, France and Great Britain to take “defensive measures” if necessary to protect their own interests in the region. But according to a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the mullahs would see that as aggression.

Security expert Joachim Krause classifies this in an interview with FOCUS online: “The Iranians have medium-range missiles that can reach Italy and Austria, but not Germany.”

“I don’t believe that the Iranians will use missiles against European countries, but rather that there will be attacks here.” He warns of “attacks of a magnitude that we may not even want to imagine.”

The focus is particularly on the Revolutionary Guards. They are very experienced and have developed “all possible techniques and tactics” for terrorist attacks.

Krause also points out the risk of radicalized individual perpetrators as well as coordinated actions. “We all don’t know where or when, but we know that this is now a real possibility or threat.”

Expert fears increased attacks on energy infrastructure in the Gulf

Germany itself is present in Iraq with around 110 Bundeswehr soldiers – they too have already been the target of attacks. In addition, Krause fears further escalation in the Middle East, for example through increased attacks on oil and gas facilities Gulf States.

When it comes to Iranian drones, the expert is more relaxed. These could “perhaps fly 1,200 kilometers” and were slow and prone to failure.

However, he mentions one exception: If Iranian “squads” in Europe equip drones with explosives, the scenario of a drone attack would also be conceivable here.
