We have two nine-year-old children in the Rhein-Neckar district A large sum of cash was found – and behave in an exemplary manner. According to the police, the children called the officers on an emergency call last Friday afternoon and handed over the money they found.

The sum was in the three-digit range, the police said. Where the money came from could not initially be clarified. The find will therefore now be handed over to the local lost property office.

The police expressly praised the children’s behavior. It was said that they had acted in an “exemplary manner”.

If no owner comes forward, finders are allowed to keep the money

Their honesty could even pay off for the children. If no owner comes forward within the statutory retention period, they can keep the money. The police specifically pointed this out.

If the owner is found, in many cases the finder is entitled to at least a finder’s fee. According to the Civil Code, this is usually five percent of the value.
