Bayern worries about injured Davies, Musiala and Urbig – Eberl with first diagnosis

FC Bayern wins clearly against Atalanta Bergamo, but probably loses Alphonso Davies again. The Munich player had to be substituted again in tears during his comeback.

Jamal Musiala and Jonas Urbig also had to leave the field injured shortly before the end, increasing Bayern’s worries. Sports director Max Eberl gives the first diagnoses after the game.

Eberl with the first diagnoses: the all-clear for Musiala

In the case of Musiala, who initially hobbles across the pitch in the final phase and leaves the field in stoppage time without being able to make a substitution, Eberl immediately gives the all-clear: “It’s the least serious with Jamal Musiala, that was more of a precautionary measure.”

Urbig was injured when conceding a goal in the very last action of the game. He collided with Bergamo’s Nikola Krst. “I don’t know exactly about Jonas Urbig, he was a bit dazed and had a headache,” said Eberl.

The situation looks more complicated with Davies. Bad luck remains a close companion of the Munich full-back. In the 70th minute, teammate Dayot Upamecano signaled to the sideline that Davies had to be replaced.

When Davies falls to the ground, all his teammates rush to him

When he crouches down and hits the ground, something worse is to be feared. Almost all of his teammates suddenly gather around Davies, who hides his now tearful face in the red jersey.

Upamecano, Leon Goretzka, Josip Stanisic, Jonathan Tah, Joshua Kimmich, Luis Diaz – they come to the Canadian to comfort him.

“It’s so bitter,” says Prime expert Benedikt Höwedes, who can understand Davies’ feeling very well. “When you’ve just come out of a fresh muscle injury and are fighting your way back, it always takes an incredible amount of energy and strength and nerves. You always ask yourself: ‘Why me? Why does it have to happen to me again? I fought so hard for it,'” said the former defender.

Again and again Davies: First a torn cruciate ligament, then a torn muscle fiber

Davies made his comeback against Atalanta after a short injury break. He came on at halftime for Konrad Laimer.

Davies was recently sidelined with a torn muscle fiber. The 25-year-old has already missed large parts of the season because he tore a cruciate ligament in March 2025. This season, Davies only played 13 games across all competitions, only two lasting the full 90 minutes. “It hurts incredibly,” says Höwedes. “I really feel sorry for him.”

As Davies leaves the pitch, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany and his substitute Tom Bischof give him a longer hug on the sidelines.

“With Phonzy Davies, unfortunately it’s something muscular again,” Eberl later confirmed. The suffering will probably continue for the time being.
