More than 2,500 hospitals worldwide were analyzed in a current international comparison. The ranking of the US news magazine “Newsweek” and the statistics portal “Statista” examined clinics in 32 countries, including Germany, the USA, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, Canada and Switzerland. The 250 best were particularly honored.

German clinics in an international comparison

Germany is strongly represented in the ranking. Three German clinics made it into the top 20 worldwide:

• The best-ranked German institution is the Charité – Berlin University Medical Center in 8th place.
• 12th place: Heidelberg University Hospital
• 17th place: LMU Klinikum Munich

Numerous German institutions are also represented in the ranking. These include, among others:

Rating based on four categories

For the ranking, each hospital was comprehensively checked. The assessment is based on four central data sources:

• Recommendations of medical experts: Tens of thousands Doctorsclinic managers and health professionals from 32 countries recommended hospitals at home and abroad in a survey – recommendations from their own clinic were excluded.
• Hospital quality indicators: Among other things, treatment results, hygiene standards and the number of patients per doctor or nurse were assessed.
• Existing patient data: Publicly available results from patient surveys were included. Among other things, general satisfaction, quality of medical care and the recommendation rate.
• Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs): Standardized patient questionnaires measured how patients rated their health, well-being and quality of life after treatment.

USA three times among the top five clinics in the world

In an international comparison, clinics from the USA dominate the top group. Three of the five best-ranked hospitals worldwide come from the United States.
