Veil investigators discovered “a low seven-figure amount,” presumably around three million euros, in a vehicle with a foreign license plate.

The 45-year-old Hungarian driver was unable to provide any plausible information about the origin of the money. Officials are now investigating suspected money laundering.

The man was arrested and is in custody after an arrest warrant was issued. Cash and vehicle were seized.

Not the first spectacular find on the A3

It is the largest cash find in Lower Bavaria in recent years. On the A3 already existed in the past several spectacular findsincluding gold bars, jewelry and large sums of cash.

The police attribute the frequency of such incidents to the importance of the motorway as an important connection between Belgium, the Netherlands and southeastern Europe. Since 2017, assets with unclear origins have been easier to confiscate, making investigations easier.
