Detlef D! Soost has suffered four strokes: “I couldn’t see anything anymore”

From one moment to the next he could no longer see anything. Detlef D! Soost has revealed that he has suffered four strokes.

The whole thing happened during a vacation with his wife Kate Hall in 2024, as Soost told “Picture” reports. “I couldn’t see anything in my left eye in the morning. There was only darkness,” he says. It was only during an appointment with an ophthalmologist in his hometown of Berlin that it became clear that the dancer had suffered a total of four strokes.

Detlef Soost on his strokes: “Genetic”

His ophthalmologist initially found no abnormalities in his eyes. Only an MRI provided information: “It was discovered that I had one normal stroke and three small strokes within a very short period of time in the area of the brain that is responsible for vision,” says the 55-year-old.

Soost had a complete check-up. Finally, the cause of the strokes was determined. “It’s genetic for me. My father also had two strokes before his 60th birthday. He also had heart problems and died at 62,” he explains, adding: “That won’t happen to me, I’ll be 100 years old. That’s how I live now.”

Detlef D! Soost has been married to his wife Kate Hall since 2012.

Detlef Soost struggled with heart problems

In 2019, Detlef Soost experienced a health shock: “I suddenly only had nine percent heart pumping activity,” reports the dancer. At that time he was training intensively for the TV show “Dancing on Ice”, regularly pushing himself to his limits. “I always thought I would stay 20 forever. And that I could use my battery at full throttle without having to recharge it.”

He then had to spend ten days in a clinic. Today, Detlef Soost takes his health more seriously: “After my heart collapse and four strokes, I understood that I am not invulnerable. I take my heart medication, deal with stress more consciously and choose my professional projects more specifically. I listen more to my body’s signals today.”
