Popp about the change: “Didn’t want to miss the chance to play in the BVB jersey”

Popp on her decision: “My heart beats for this club. I’m slowly coming to the end of my career and I also have to listen to my body. I didn’t want to miss the time and the opportunity to play in the BVB jersey. BVB’s interest made me proud from the first moment, I immediately had a big grin on my face. It’s very exciting for me to be able to help develop the path that has been so successful so far in the future.”

A childhood dream has come true for the 13-time champion. Popp has been a BVB fan since she was a child. The aim of the BVB women, currently second behind 1. FC Köln II in the Regionalliga West, is to make it to the Bundesliga. Dortmund is also a relevant venue for the 2029 Women’s European Championship in Germany.

Popp is leaving VfL Wolfsburg after 14 years

VfL Wolfsburg had previously announced that Alexandra Popp would not be extending her expiring contract with the Volkswagen club after the end of this season.

“After 14 years in the green and white jersey, a special chapter ends,” it says. The 34-year-old has been playing for Wolfsburg since 2012 and won the Champions League twice, the German championship title seven times and the DFB Cup eleven times with VfL.
