Annoying for many garden owners in spring: you can drive moles out of the garden with a breakfast food

In spring, moles often leave unsightly mounds in the garden. If you want to drive away these uninvited guests, simple but effective home remedies are worthwhile.

Care in spring Molehills causes trouble for many garden owners. The small animals dig underground tunnels and leave behind unsightly piles of dirt – often in the middle of well-tended lawns. Although moles are protected and cannot be caught or killed, there are effective and animal-friendly methods to get rid of them.

How to keep moles away from the garden

A particularly simple trick has proven itself in practice: sour yogurt. The smell of fermented milk is extremely unpleasant for moles – their fine sense of smell is extremely sensitive to it.

  1. To use the yogurt trick, you must first carefully open a molehill to reveal the passage underneath.
  2. Add a few spoonfuls of sour natural yogurt or sour milk to this.
  3. The passage is then closed again with earth so that the smell is distributed throughout the tunnel system.
  4. Ideally, you repeat the process on several hills and check in the following days whether new piles of earth are created.

Mole: Other home remedies also provide relief

If you want to tackle the mole more consistently, you can also use other natural sources of smell. Crushed garlic cloves placed in the aisles have a similar deterrent effect. Also rags that come with Vinegar have been soaked, drive away moles with their intense smell.

Some hobby gardeners also swear by plant manure made from wormwood or nettles, which are poured directly into the aisles.

It is important for all methods that you use them regularly and, if possible, distribute them over several tunnels in the garden. The unpleasant smells permeate the entire underground corridor system and are particularly effective. Also make sure to always leave an escape route open for the animal – this way the mole can leave the garden naturally.

Despite all the annoyances, you should not forget that moles are also useful garden helpers. They loosen the soil, destroy pests and improve the soil structure through their digging activity.

If you rely on gentle, natural expulsion, you not only protect your lawn, but also act in the interests of species protection.
