Celebrity chef Ali Güngörmüş doesn’t want to work for the DFB team

The well-known TV chef Ali Güngörmüş has no interest in cooking for the German national soccer team. In “Grill den Henssler” he now explains a surprisingly pragmatic reason for this.

“I don’t want that. They don’t pay well!”, says the top chef dryly on the show.

The affinity for football would definitely be there. Güngörmüş, who is an avowed football fan, reveals that he actually came close to the topic once: “I was once in conversation with Sankt Pauli.” However, nothing came of his involvement with the legendary Hamburg neighborhood club and after he left the Hanseatic city, this opportunity came to nothing. Today Güngörmüş lives and works in Munich, where he runs his own restaurant “Pageou”.

In the current edition of the cooking coach special, Güngörmüş competes against TV chef Steffen Henssler (53) for the seventh time. The balance before the evening is balanced: “It’s 3:3,” announces presenter Laura Wontorra (37). At his side, two other kitchen greats are fighting for the honor: Daniel Gottschlich (43), two-star chef from Cologne and named “Chef of the Year 2025” by “Falstaff” magazine, is making his debut at “Grill den Henssler”. Max Stiegl (45), the native of Slovenia and once the youngest star chef in the world, returns after his appearance on “Europe grills the Henssler”.

Henssler treats this top-class field of opponents with respect – and a certain degree of caution: “They are all exceptional chefs and grenades,” he says, and at the same time refers to the special challenge of the format: “The worst thing for a chef is to be in another kitchen.” The jury around Joachim Llambi (61), Alexander Herrmann (54) and Jana Ina Zarrella (49) were allowed to choose the dishes themselves in this special.
