Finale in the Høiby trial: Now it’s the defense’s turn


Rape, abuse, drugs: The allegations against the eldest son of the Norwegian Crown Princess have been discussed in Oslo for weeks. After the public prosecutor’s office demanded a harsh sentence, his defense attorney pleaded for leniency.

Defense attorney: The trial was a great burden for Høiby

On the last day of the trial against the eldest son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, his second defense attorney Petar Sekulic described the massive media hype as a great burden for his client.

Belonging to the royal family didn’t make it any easier for Marius Borg Høiby, lawyer Sekulic said in court on Thursday, according to the newspaper “Verdens Gang” – also “because he loves his family so much and what they had to go through in this matter really torments him.”

According to consistent media reports, his defense attorney initially argued for his client to be acquitted of the rape allegations. “There is no evidence to suggest that Marius can be convicted of the rapes,” said defense attorney Petar Sekulic, according to the newspaper “Verdens Gang” on Thursday. “In none of the four cases.”

40 charges against Høiby

The prosecution also demanded a two-year ban on contact with one Ex-girlfriend, the Norwegian media after the Oslo district Frogner “Frogner woman” to name. An incident in her apartment got the investigation against Mette-Marit’s son rolling in August 2024. 20 of the 40 charges relate to her. Prosecutor convinced: Høiby raped women while they were sleeping

He is also charged with four counts of rape under Norwegian law and one count of penile penetration. The prosecution is convinced that Høiby raped the women while they were sleeping. All of the alleged victims testified at the trial. On Wednesday, their lawyers demanded compensation totaling 1.95 million Norwegian crowns (around 177,000 euros).
