The New York police confirmed the collision, but were initially unable to provide any further information.
A spokesman for the New York Fire Department said firefighters were called to a scene at 11:38 p.m. (local time) after reports that a plane had crashed into a vehicle on the runway. No further information was initially available from the official side.
As the New York Post writes, at least two local Port Authority police officers were seriously injured in the accident. The aircraft is said to be a Bombardier CRJ-900, which can accommodate 76 passengers. The Air Canada plane was operated by Canadian regional airline Jazz Aviation and flew from Montreal to New York.
“JAZZ 646, I see that you have collided with the vehicle. Just stay in your position. I know you can’t move. The emergency vehicles are on their way to you right now,” an air traffic controller can be heard saying in an audio recording, according to CNN.
