Man shot in Berlin – perpetrator flees in car

A man was shot in Berlin-Schöneberg. The 38-year-old was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower body.

A police spokesman said this. There is no danger to life. Witnesses are said to have heard the sounds of gunshots around midnight. The perpetrator or perpetrators are said to have fled in a car. The police are looking for them, but so far without success. The criminal investigation service began the investigation that night, including the background to the crime.

More gun incidents

The number of incidents involving firearms has recently increased in Berlin. A 23-year-old was shot in the Wilmersdorf district just at the weekend and was taken to hospital seriously injured on Saturday morning. According to the investigators’ findings, the background to the crimes is often turf wars and disputes in the criminal environment.

The police union (GdP) in Berlin expressed alarm about this development and the latest crime. “The marmot greets you every day, and as sad as it sounds. Hardly a night goes by in Berlin without someone picking up a gun,” explained spokesman Benjamin Jendro. Anyone who fires several shots at a person on the street is prepared to kill and accepts other victims in addition to their target.

“Arming the scene”

“We have been talking about arming the scene for a long time and obviously there are more and more people in this city who use gun violence to solve private feuds or rivalries in organized crime,” said Jendro. “It would be nice if politicians finally did something.” What is needed, for example, is more video surveillance, modern evaluation technology and sensible measures against illegal arms trafficking.

Some time ago, the special unit “Ferrum” was formed in the Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA). It is intended to take action against the widespread firearms and shootings in the city and to put pressure on organized crime structures through numerous controls and other activities.
