The CSU politician Thomas Pardeller achieved 54.7 percent in the runoff election after all votes were counted. The Green politician Carola Grimminger, who was also supported by the ÖDP, lost with 45.3 percent.

In the first round of the local elections, Pardeller narrowly missed a majority with 49.7 percent. Grimminger scored 35.3 percent. The SPD and FDP candidates landed below ten percent.

“Huge stupidity”: 11,400 euros fine for cocaine possession

Police found a small amount of cocaine on Pardeller last October. He accepted a penalty order for 60 daily rates of 190 euros each, a total of 11,400 euros. He himself spoke of a “huge mistake” and “huge stupidity”. His CSU local branch stood behind him – but emphasized that they were sticking to the party as a whole’s fundamentally restrictive drug policy.
