The death driver from the Magdeburg Christmas market had to be carried into the hearing room on the 25th day of the trial. There he then rioted in his glass case.
It wasn’t until a good hour and a half after the regular start of the hearing that four special judicial officers brought him into the glass booth from which he usually follows the trial. On the morning of the trial day the only issue was the defendant’s ability to stand trial.
Defendant starts screaming in cabin
In the cabin began the 51-year-old from Saudi Arabia to scream. Shortly afterwards he had to be carried out of the hall and then brought back in. The defendant shouted “Nazi!” into his microphone. and “Do you think acute suicidality has nothing to do with ability to stand trial?”, or “Are you a psychiatrist or what?”. The 51-year-old, to the limit himself worked as a psychiatrist in the penal system added: “This is inhumane.”
There were signals from the Burg correctional facility that the ability to stand trial could be impaired due to a refusal to eat, said presiding judge Dirk Sternberg. A medical expert who attended the proceedings and spoke to the defendant believed that he was fit to stand trial for at least a short day of trial.
During another one-hour break, the medical expert again examined blood pressure, pulse and oxygen saturation and repeatedly assessed the defendant as fit to stand trial. The 51-year-old did not seem unfocused or unfocused during the conversation. He drank water and took glucose tablets.
Always on hunger strike
According to the indictment by the Naumburg Public Prosecutor’s Office, Taleb Al-Abdulmohsen, then 50 years old, drove a high-horsepower rental car about 350 meters over the Christmas market shortly before Christmas. Five women and a nine-year-old boy died. More than 300 people were injured, some seriously. The indictment accuses Al-Abdulmohsen of, among other things, six counts of murder and 338 counts of attempted murder.
The 51-year-old repeatedly refuses to eat and drink. Repeated he spreads crude conspiracy theories. Most recently, he was no longer able to stand trial in December due to the consequences of a hunger and thirst strike.
