The ADAC contribution for new customers in the basic tariff will in future be 64 euros. The old contribution was 54 euros – an increase of ten euros. This emerges from research by “Welt”. This is the highest price increase in the history of the club, which was founded in 1903.

According to “Welt”, the new prices will apply from 2027. The price adjustments are to be decided at the ADAC general meeting on May 23rd.

An ADAC spokeswoman told “Welt”: “After six years of constantly rising costs, the ADAC also has to think about adjusting contributions in order to provide services to members in this high number and with the usual high quality.”

However, the price increases have not yet been officially confirmed. It is said that the annual contributions would have to be adjusted, particularly due to the high energy costs as well as the expenses for personnel, spare parts, towing and workshop services.

One in four Germans is with the ADAC

The ADAC, also known as the “Yellow Angels”, has more than 22 million members in Germany. Almost one in four Germans cooperates with the ADAC, which includes around 1,700 breakdown assistants and 750 contractual partners with around 5,000 vehicles.

Rival club: “We don’t increase contributions”

In response to the report, the car club “Mobil in Germany” already announced that they would not increase prices there. “Driving is expensive enough at the moment, fuel prices are at an all-time high, so you can’t also increase the prices for an automobile club. We won’t do that,” said club president Michael Haberland to FOCUS online.

The ADAC recently came under criticism because of its transport president, Gerhard Hillebrand. In an interview, he welcomed higher gasoline prices and thereby attracted the anger of numerous members. Ultimately, Hillebrand resigned because of this. How many resignations there really were because of the interview remains unclear. The last time there was a big wave of resignations from the ADAC was more than ten years ago. At that time it became known that the automobile club had manipulated the results of the “Yellow Angel” award ceremony.
