Joshua Zirkzee had great hopes at FC Bayern at the beginning of his career, but he didn’t achieve a breakthrough. At Manchester United, the Dutchman has long been labeled a flop.
At Bavaria After a promising debut season with four goals in nine Bundesliga games, he only made 17 professional appearances in total – not enough to establish himself permanently in the Munich star ensemble.
Zirkzee made his final leap into the top European ranks after some time at FC Bologna: with an outstanding 2023/24 season, he became an absolute key player and sensationally led his team into the Champions League.
Manchester United brought in ex-Bayern talent Zirkzee for 42.5 million euros
These top performances did not go unnoticed. In the summer of 2024, Manchester United dug deep into their pockets. The English giant brought in the striker for a whopping 42.5 million euros and gave him a five-year contract.

But the price tag became a heavy burden for Zirkzee. He simply couldn’t build on his heyday at the big traditional club.
Zirkzee’s bitter United record: 5 goals in 50 league games
Zirkzee only scored 5 goals in 50 league games for the former successful club. Under coach Michael Carrick, with whom the team has improved significantly in recent weeks, the Dutchman plays even less than his predecessor Rúben Amorim. More than short assignments are currently not possible.
It is quite possible that the player and club will seek a change of scenery in the summer, although United could only demand a fraction of the transfer fee paid at the time.
