Suddenly winter again in the southwest: Up to 20 centimeters of snow surprises drivers in the Black Forest.
According to a spokeswoman for the German Weather Service (DWD), locations above 700 meters are particularly affected. Most of the new snow fell in Breitnau in the southern Black Forest with up to 20 centimeters at an altitude of 1000 meters.
Around 12 centimeters of fresh snow was measured in Lenzkirch (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district) and around 14 centimeters in Malsburg-Marzell (Lörrach district). Around one to three centimeters of fresh snow fell in the Swabian Alb and in the Allgäu. The new onset of winter is not unusual: “This is now this transitional phase. This is not unusual,” said the DWD spokeswoman.
Further snow showers are also possible during the day at altitudes above 700 to 800 meters. The snow is expected to stay put for the time being – the temperatures remain cool, and frost is possible on Friday night. Drivers at high altitudes should be prepared for wintry road conditions.
