Next bad news for Julian Nagelsmann. After Aleksandar Pavlovic, Felix Nmecha also has to cancel international matches due to an injury.
The BVB star suffered a lateral ligament injury in his knee in Saturday’s Bundesliga game against Hamburger SV (3-2). This means that Nmecha will be out for several weeks, as the club itself announced.
Nmecha and Pavlovic are out for international matches
For Nagelsmann, this is the next bad message. The national coach has to do without another important central midfielder in Pavlovic. The Bayern star is dealing with ongoing hip problems and has already had to miss the league game against Union Berlin (4-0).
Nagelsmann has now nominated Angelo Stiller and Chris Führich from VfB Stuttgart to replace the injured duo. The DFB officially confirmed this on Monday. The “Bild” reported previously.
Stiller himself didn’t know anything about his luck on Sunday evening after the Stuttgart game in Augsburg. There are three other central midfielders available in the squad: Leon Goretzka, Anton Stach and Pascal Groß.
Nagelsmann nominates Stiller and Führich
Stiller’s non-consideration caused a big stir last week. The VfB star is having a strong season and was considered an important building block in the Nagelsmann team for a long time.
But Stiller doesn’t see him in the starting line-up at the moment, as he explained at the squad nomination press conference. Nagelsmann is looking for a different profile for the role of backup. With the double loss of Pavlovic and Nmecha, Stiller now has the chance to prove the DFB coach wrong.
Führich also has this option. The winger has a lot of competition in his position and has recently fallen down the pecking order. The 28-year-old put together good arguments in the 5-2 win in Augsburg in particular on Sunday.
