Bayern’s transfer flop Nicolas Jackson was probably written off too early

Nicolas Jackson has already been labeled a transfer flop at FC Bayern. In the absence of Harry Kane, he is suddenly convincing in exactly the role for which he was brought to Munich.

Nicolas Jackson’s future at FC Bayern seemed to have been decided for a long time. The striker was used too rarely and the competition from Harry Kane was too great. But in the past few games, the Senegalese has shown that he can still be important for the record champions.

Just at the moment when Kane was injured, Jackson suddenly took center stage – and made impressive use of his chance.

The 24-year-old was on the pitch for the full distance in both games and provided a goal and an assist in each. Four points in two games is a strong record for a player who has rarely been the center of attention before.

Jackson only moved to FC Bayern at the last minute in August 2025. The record champions signed him on loan from Chelsea to have an additional option in the center of attack.

However, a firmly agreed purchase obligation will not apply because the attacker has not collected enough starting eleven appearances. The originally agreed sum would have been around 65 million euros.

Overall, Jackson has scored ten goals in 24 games so far this season. In the offensively strong Bayern team, these are solid, if not outstanding, numbers. However, recent performances show that the Senegalese can certainly deliver when needed.

Coach Kompany defends Jackson

While there has recently been speculation about a safe departure in the summer, coach Vincent Kompany publicly supported his attacker. “The boy didn’t do anything wrong, trained really well, came out of the Africa Cup as a winner,” explained the Bayern coach after the Gladbach game.

At the same time, Kompany pointed out the enormous competition in Munich’s attack. “It’s a bit difficult when Harry Kane plays in your position or Luis Díaz,” said the Belgian. “I’m happy for Jacko. He showed his skills, hopefully again soon.”

The future in Munich is unclear

Jackson himself should also continue to hope to stay at FC Bayern. The attacker would like to recommend himself until the end of the season and fight for his future.

However, one thing is clear: a commitment would not be a favorable undertaking for the Munich team. The striker is currently expected to earn an annual salary of around 14 million euros. There would also be a possible transfer fee, which, according to the English media, could be at least 30 million euros.

Bayern are therefore faced with a strategic decision. On the one hand, the record champions need a reliable backup for Harry Kane in the future. On the other hand, this replacement striker would also have to fit economically into the new salary structure.
