However, the current situation of the jet stream is crucial. “The jet has shifted north,” explains Schenk. As a result, the paths of the storms are currently more likely to be over the British Isles and Northern Europe. The result: more stable and milder weather in large parts of Central Europe. The situation in the Mediterranean region is also easing after the recent storms. “It will be drier in the south of Europe, warmer here and yes, a little wetter in the British Isles,” says Schenk.

High pressure over the Mediterranean

The current rainfall pattern shows a clear distribution: While high pressure settles over the Mediterranean region, rainy areas move mainly along the edges – for example over Ireland, Norway or later also towards Türkiye. Schenk summarizes: “High pressure over the Mediterranean and rain on the edges.”

This means good prospects for holidaymakers: “It’s getting really, really nice in the Mediterranean region now – except for the edges.”

In Germany too, the weather situation remains on course for spring for the time being.
