Thuringia’s Prime Minister Mario Voigt put forward a thesis that the CDU actually achieved an election result of 60 percent: “Cem Ozdemir ultimately made a policy and an election campaign that was, in principle, a copy of the CDU policy. And if you add that together, the votes of the Greens and the votes of the CDU, then the CDU actually got 60 percent in Baden-Württemberg.”
Voigt on the CDU result: “The only party that has actually grown”
Moderator Klamroth, puzzled, interrupts the CDU man: “I’m just trying to take that into account. Does that mean you’re saying that Özdemir basically got votes for the CDU?”
Voigt then explains that Özdemir sees the end of combustion engines differently than the Greens at the federal level. The same applies to migration policy. “So you should actually be happy that he won,” says Klamroth firmly.
Instead, says Voigt, “it has to be about content first.” Because the CDU made significant gains and achieved “the strongest result”. “Even in the middle class: the only party that has actually grown,” said the Thuringian.
Spahn suggests splitting the term of office – Green Party leader scoffs
According to Voigt, a government must be formed that bears a clear CDU signature: “I think the content comes first! First the country, then the party, then the person.” The suggestion from his party colleague Jens Spahn, according to which Özdemir and the CDU candidate Manuel Hagel He described the idea of sharing the five-year term as an “exciting idea.”
Green Party leader Felix Banaszak could only joke about it. “If the election result had been different and the CDU and Manuel Hagel had had a 13-vote lead and we had made this proposal, I would like to know what Jens Spahn would have said about it,” said the Federal Chairman of the Greens.
The Greens led by Cem Özdemir won in Baden-Württemberg with a lead of just 0.5 percent over the CDU. The AfD became the third strongest force with 18.8 percent. The SPD is the fourth strongest force with 5.5 percent. The FDP and the Left fail at the five percent hurdle.
