Four workers were killed when a building collapsed in Vienna. A spokesman for the fire department confirmed this to the German Press Agency.
Another worker was seriously injured. The Austrian news agency APA had previously reported.
Construction worker buried and died in accident in Vienna
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on a construction site in the Alsergrund district near the city center. During concreting work in the inner courtyard of a building, the workers were buried under parts of scaffolding, concrete formwork and liquid concrete, the spokesman reported. The entire structure collapsed.
A large-scale rescue operation was launched. Among other things, 120 firefighters were on site. They rescued the accident victims with a crane, a winch and their bare hands, according to the fire department.
According to information from the “Kronen” newspaper, the surviving person was rescued after 90 minutes. The construction worker received emergency medical treatment with serious injuries to his head, spine, hands and arms.
