It was actually supposed to be a short flight. 49-year-old Søren Thieme was on his way back from Thailand to Copenhagen with his wife and two children. But their stopover in Munich lasted longer than expected.

Family father felt abandoned

This emerges from an article in the industry magazine “One Mile at a Time”. This resulted in ever greater delays. The crew is said to have informed passengers every half hour about attempts to organize buses to take them back to the terminal.

These were apparently unsuccessful. At 2 a.m. the passengers were greeted according to “One Mile at a Time” informed that all bus drivers had gone home and the airport was closed. They therefore had to spend the night in the Airbus A320neo.

According to Ekstra Bladet, family father Thieme felt let down not only by Lufthansa, but also by Munich Airport. He tells the newspaper that there was no food, drink or blankets.

“We were totally frustrated. We had been traveling for over 24 hours. Actually, we should have been home in Denmark and sleeping by now. But the flight crew was also completely at a loss,” said the 49-year-old.

He and his family were only able to leave the plane in the early hours of the morning. You have been rebooked on another flight. According to Ekstra Bladet, they are now at home. “In the meantime I was wondering whether it would even work this weekend,” said Thieme.

The disappointment about the experience runs deep. “The passengers can’t just go home. You can’t just abandon them. Flights can be canceled at any time, but leaving people on the plane indefinitely is unacceptable.”

Lufthansa apologizes to those affected

The airline has since apologized to those affected. When asked by the Danish tabloid, Lufthansa said that due to the weather conditions there had been “temporary closures of the runways and significant delays in de-icing measures.”

The result: flight cancellations and rebookings. “The passengers of flight LH2446 to Copenhagen (scheduled departure 9:30 p.m.) (…) were also affected by weather-related disruptions,” the statement continued. Lufthansa deeply regrets any inconvenience caused.
