Storm and high waves in the Atlantic

A storm system will pass between the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands in the coming days. Wind peaks of up to 80 km/h are expected over land and up to 100 km/h over the sea.

The situation on the coasts is particularly critical: off Madeira, the waves can reach a height of 5 to 8 meters, on the northern coasts of the Canaries become waves from 3 to 5 meters expected.

This can quickly become life-threatening. The waves will remain very high at least until the weekend.

There is also heavy rain. Up to 100 liters per square meter can fall on the mountain slopes in a short time. This can lead to torrents and landslides.

Eastern Mediterranean: risk of flooding and landslides

There is also a risk of heavy rain in the eastern Mediterranean, for example between Athens, Antalya and Nicosia, in the next few days. There is a risk of localized flooding, rapidly rising streams and landslides. Holidaymakers should definitely heed the warnings from local authorities and weather services.

Thursday brings a lot of sunshine. Only in the north and east are there occasional clouds. The maximum values ​​are between 10 and 19 degrees, mildest in the center and south.

On Friday the south will initially appear clear, later more clouds will appear there too. Over the middle and in the east it will be cloudy at times with some rain, in the north it will clear up again in the afternoon. The maximum values ​​are 18 degrees in the southwest.
