In view of threats such as blackouts, floods, terror or war, Germany must be better prepared – in the classroom. As the minister explained to “Bild am Sonntag”, students will in future be specifically trained for emergencies.

Dobrindt to “Bild”: “Civil defense belongs in schools. Prevention creates security. Our students become clever crisis prevention experts: They bring the knowledge directly into the families.”

According to the Interior Minister’s plans, the topic will be discussed specifically at the next Interior Ministers’ Conference in June. There is therefore a mandatory double lesson per half-year. During this time, students should acquire practical knowledge: from how to behave during power outages and natural disasters to recognizing warning signals, emergency contacts and precautions at home.
