Fire on the A4: US military tank bursts into flames


A US Army engineer tank caught fire near Chemnitz on Monday night. It was transported on a low loader. Videos show the damage.

Video footage from the news agency “News5” shows the operation at the Rossauer Wald rest area on the A4 towards Chemnitz. The Fire department was alerted around 1:20 a.m. The emergency services reported that Fire and heavy smoke was already visible upon arrival.

A high fire load made extinguishing work difficult

Extinguishing work was difficult because the fire load was high. However, the fire was limited to the semi-trailer. It was possible to prevent the fire from spreading to the tractor or the surrounding area. Around 50 emergency services were on site.

The cause of the fire is still unclear

The rest area was completely closed during the work. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Information on the extent of the damage is not yet available.
