Green Party leader Franziska Brantner warns of the “hot hammer”: The planned reform of the Building Energy Act could make Germany more dependent on the USA.
Franziska Brantner accuses the black-red coalition of being with the planned reform of the heating law to increase Germany’s dependence on US President Donald Trump. The Green Party leader also expects an immense price increase. “Biogas is already very, very much more expensive than gas today. And the second thing is with hydrogen – Mr. Merz recently said that we don’t have enough hydrogen for one or two steelworks. And now he says that we use it to do all our heating. It’s complete madness and will be incredibly expensive for the citizens,” said Brantner in the “Bild” interview.
“Above all, the coalition is making heating more expensive for citizens with its gas fetish”
Brantner had previously told the “Rheinische Post” (RP): “Tomorrow, Donald Trump could come up with the idea of no longer supplying us with LNG gas Rich heating hammer “To become dependent on the USA again is crazy.”
Germany can produce the necessary energy itself with more wind and sun, storage and optimized networks. “Above all, the coalition is making heating more expensive for citizens with its gas fetish,” Brantner told the “RP”. Biogas is already more expensive today because it is hardly available. “And it won’t be cheaper,” said the Green politician.
Brantner: “Rolling backwards” unsettles people
With the reform planned by the Union and SPD, the heating law of the former Green Party Economics Minister Robert Habeck will be abolished. The regulation passed by the previous government, according to which every newly installed heating system must be powered by 65 percent renewable energy, is to be abolished. The installation of gas and oil heating should still be possible if climate-friendly fuels are used on a proportionate basis from 2029.
From Brantner’s point of view, people become insecure “from this role backwards”. The previous law has proven that it works. “Even among AfD voters, the heat pump is now the most popular type of heating. People do the math before investing in a new heating system,” said Brantner.
