Huge trouble in Paris: Chelsea star throws Ballkind to the ground

Emotions are running high during the PSG vs. Chelsea game. An incident occurs with a ball boy and a pack forms.

What’s wrong with the English? Six Premier League teams have made it to the round of 16 of the Champions League. But English victories in the first legs? None!

Newcastle United (at home against FC Barcelona) and co-favorites FC Arsenal (away at Bayer Leverkusen) each maintained their chance of progressing with a 1-1 draw, including FC Liverpool are through to the last eight after losing 1-0 at Galatasaray not yet written off. The three other teams all need a little football miracle in the second leg.

There was a scandal in the Parc des Princes in the final phase. With the score at 2:4, Chelsea professional Pedro Neto wasn’t moving fast enough. The Portuguese wanted to quickly grab the ball from the ball boy on the sideline – and simply pushed the youngster over!

The boy fell to the ground and Neto was surrounded by numerous Parisians in an instant. A pack formed while carers looked after the boy. The referee had his hands full.

Did the ball boy drop after the push?

The Daily Mail wrote about a bizarre altercation between Neto and the ball boy. The Sun described the situation as “madness”. Meanwhile, the German DAZN commentator calmly and not entirely unfoundedly stated that the ball boy might have made a bit of a big deal out of the push.

The referee team apparently saw it similarly: After a VAR check, there were no consequences for Neto, who apologized personally to the boy and also publicly after the game.

The scene was still reminiscent of a former Chelsea star. Eden Hazard also had a clash with a ball boy in the 2013 League Cup semi-final against Swansea City. But the Belgian was much rougher than Neto. He kicked the boy who had laid on the ball to delay the game. Hazard was sent off and banned.

Things ended well for the ball boy at the time: Charlie Morgan founded a vodka company as an adult and became a multi-millionaire.
