Instead of Dubai, Türkiye, Egypt: holidaymakers can now find alternatives here

Flights canceled, prices under pressure, new risks: The Iran war is shaking up the travel market. But new options are also emerging for holidaymakers.

The war in Middle East has disrupted the travel market brought: Flights are canceled, hubs are canceled, travel warnings apply to entire regions. Many holidaymakers have to or want to change their plans – and are looking for alternatives at short notice.

A current FOCUS online evaluation shows which destinations are now comparatively cheap and where a vacation is still worthwhile despite the crisis.

Price check Easter holidays 2026: These destinations are now the cheapest

An analysis of package holidays during the Easter holidays (between March 30th to April 10th, 2026, two adults, one school child, one week) shows clear price differences depending on the destination. The basis is data from comparison portals such as Check24 or Sonnenklar.TV.

The country offers at a glance:

  • Germany: from approx. 1032 euros
  • Italy / Malta: from approx. 1185 euros
  • Greece: from approx. 1191 euros
  • France: from approx. 1233 euros
  • Egypt: from approx. 1257 euros
  • Spain (mainland): from approx. 1491 euros
  • Portugal: from approx. 1653 euros
  • Canary Islands: from approx. 1776 euros

Germany seems cheaper – but it is not necessarily so

Important: At first glance, Germany seems the cheapest – but it is not. Specific offers show why. Example Baltic Sea (Schleswig-Holstein, Expedia data):

  • Hotels: 66 to 118 euros per night
  • 10 nights: 724 to 1294 euros – accommodation only

Meals, travel or additional costs but still come. Package holidays abroad, on the other hand, usually include Flight, hotel, transfer and often with half board. This quickly puts the supposed price advantage into perspective.

The fact that international crises bring additional guests to the island is not a new phenomenon. “Mallorca has always benefited in the past when international uncertainties increase,” said Marcel Remus, a broker specializing in luxury real estate, to FOCUS online. The island is considered particularly safe, is easily accessible and offers a high quality of life.

Nevertheless, current package offers for the Balearic island are currently available eight days including flights and accommodation for two adults and one school child According to the evaluation by Check24, usually between around 1008 and 1275 euros. Individual offers start just above the mark 1000 eurosmany are in the range between 1100 and 1250 euros.

This means that Mallorca is at a similar price level to Italy or Greece – in some cases even slightly higher. The data shows: The classic Mallorca holiday is still possible, but is no longer automatically the cheapest option.

These warm goals are particularly worthwhile now

If you are looking for sun, you will currently find several alternatives with a good price-performance ratio for three people (two adults, one child) and a week:

  • Italy/Malta (from approx. 1185 euros)
Mild climate, short flight times and currently comparatively cheap package deals.
  • Greece (from approx. 1191 euros)
Stable situation according to the Foreign Office, less crowded in spring.
  • Southern France (from approx. 1233 euros)
Low season ensures moderate prices combined with good weather conditions.
  • Morocco (from approx. 1461 euros)
Significantly warmer than Europe, still free capacity and comparatively cheap offers.
  • Canary Islands (from approx. 1776 euros)
Reliably warm, but noticeably more expensive than classic Mediterranean destinations.

The trend shows: Holidays abroad often cost little more than in Germany, but usually offer better weather conditions.

Airlines are also reacting: connections to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha are restricted or canceled.

The Foreign Office is currently warning against traveling to numerous states in the Gulf region, including Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

It looks different classic holiday destinations out of: Greece, large parts of Türkiye and Cyprus are still considered travelable, with restrictions in border regions. The ADAC also emphasizes that in these tourist regions currently no acute risk consists.

Why flying is becoming cheaper despite the crisis

At first glance, the fact that flying is becoming cheaper despite rising oil prices seems contradictory. But the price of airline tickets depends not only on the fuel costs, but above all on supply and demand. On highly competitive routes – for example to the USA – many airlines are simultaneously reducing their prices in order to fill aircraft to capacity. If demand falls, for example due to political uncertainty or high local travel costs, this effect becomes even stronger.

In addition: Many airlines provide security Kerosene prices in the long term away. Such so-called hedging transactions act as a kind of price buffer – short-term price jumps on the oil market therefore often do not have an immediate impact on ticket prices.

This explains why flights are currently being offered cheaper, even though costs are already rising in the background. However, this effect is unlikely to last in the long term: if energy prices remain high or become more severe geopolitical risks continue, become Airlines their higher costs sooner or later have to pass on to customers.
