Israeli intelligence is working to dismantle the Iranian regime. In phone calls, Mossad agents apparently threaten officials in Tehran with death, as “Wall Street Journal” (WSJ) reports.

The US newspaper has access to a conversation between an Israeli intelligence officer and a high-ranking Iranian police commander. At the beginning, the agent can be heard asking in Farsi, “Can you hear me?” He then continues, according to the report: “We know everything about you. You are on our blacklist and we have all the information about you.”

Israel’s threatening calls: “You should side with your people”

The police officer, who was obviously taken by surprise, only answered curtly with “OK”. Then, according to the WSJ, the Mossad man can be heard again: “I called to warn you in advance that you should side with your people. And if you don’t, your fate will be the same as that of your leader.” This refers to the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the beginning of the Iran war.

The Iranian commander then begs his interlocutor: “Brother, I swear on the Koran, I am not your enemy!” Then he says, “I’m already a dead man. Please just come and help us.” It is unclear whether the Iranian official actually took the side Israel and is critical of his own regime – or whether that is just a protective claim to save his obviously threatened life.

Tactics of attrition instead of a ground offensive in Iran

The phone call cited by the WSJ provides insight into the apparent strategy of Israel and the United States to wear down the Iranian regime and thus bring about an overthrow.
