Judge reprimands: Marius and ex shouldn’t flirt in court

Judge Jon Sverdrup Efjestad banned the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit from looking at his ex in court on Thursday.

This is what “Bild” reports from the courtroom. Previously, Marius Borg Høiby and the “woman from Frogner”, as his ex-girlfriend is called in the trial reports, repeatedly gave each other flirtatious looks. Apparently it was too much for the judge in the courtroom. Borg Høiby is no longer allowed to look at the Frogner woman. Already the day before he had an argument in the courtroom.

Marius is said to have sent flowers to his ex while in custody

The defendant is said to have previously sent the woman flowers from custody. He is also on trial because, among other things, he is said to have hit and choked her during their relationship. Even before his arrest, he is said to have violated a contact ban imposed on him several times. The son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit called his ex-partner and met her secretly, as the Norwegian newspaper “Verdens Gang” reported.

The investigation was triggered by an incident in the woman’s apartment at the beginning of August 2024. Marius Borg Høiby became violent there, choked the young woman, smashed a knife into the wall, tore a chandelier from the ceiling and trampled on it.

Despite repeated domestic violence, raging jealousy and rude insults in the relationship, contact between the two continued. In between, the woman broke off contact. In one case, Høiby is said to have called and written to her 172 times.

Ex-girlfriend wanted to have the ban on visits lifted

In December 2025, according to the report, the woman herself asked the police to lift the ban on visits imposed on Høiby. However, this was not granted. In the months before the trial started in early February, the two spent almost every day of the week together, the 29-year-old defendant said in court, according to “Verdens Gang”: “We did a lot together and thought of things to calm ourselves down.” He said they were both very afraid of the trial.

While the court hearing was already underway, the “Bonus Prince” said he sent his ex-girlfriend flowers through a friend on Valentine’s Day and wrote her a letter. He admitted this in court on Friday. He cried several times as he spoke.
