Mario Götze’s demotion at Eintracht Frankfurt is an unnecessarily harsh humiliation

Albert Riera cuts Mario Götze from the Eintracht squad. He had recently made a clear commitment to the Frankfurt team. Cynical timing. The deportation seems like an unnecessarily harsh humiliation.

As “Bild” and HR unanimously report, Götze should be fit and ready for action. The demotion from the matchday squad is therefore purely sporting in nature. The 33-year-old was completely surprised by the deportation. It is a brutal degradation of our former football hero.

Götze’s demotion is unnecessarily harsh

“I even have to cut out some players,” Riera announced on Friday and recently said again and again: “I’ll put up the players who best suit the opponent.”

He had recently clearly signaled that he was an eagle through and through. His contract, which expires in the summer he definitely wants to extend his stay in Frankfurt. “Bild” reported this on Wednesday. Götze is therefore prepared to accept larger reductions in the annual salary, which is currently rumored to be 3.5 million euros.

Riera’s cynical timing with the Götze demotion

Götze shows great commitment to the club – and gets a tough answer from the coach. Cynical timing. Sporty? Justifiable. Because the midfielder is not having a good season and has not yet collected a single scorer point in the league. But the entire Eintracht is falling short of expectations.

And Götze’s value to the team goes beyond simple statistics. He is a leader, a fan favorite, an icon. You don’t just shoot a world champion – and world champion maker – down like that. Riera does it without much distress. This only increases the humiliation.
