National soccer player Julian Brandt is leaving the Bundesliga club after seven years Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season. BVB managing director Lars Ricken announced this after the 2-1 win at 1. FC Köln.

“It’s just that there were discussions and then it was agreed that the expiring contract would not be extended,” said Ricken on Sky: “I think we can only be grateful for him, he played with us for seven years. He was always viewed critically, today he also assisted on a goal again.”

Ricken also explained what could have been a reason for the separation after the end of the season. “He will be 30 in a few weeks, so we can reorient ourselves a bit,” he said. We part “with a lot of appreciation, but as I said: it’s now another chance for both sides.”

Coach Niko Kovac confirmed the decision a little later. “Both sides have come to the decision that there will be something different,” he said: “So we will play the next nine games successfully with Jule.” Record-winning national soccer player Lothar Matthäus believes it is “completely right that both sides know what is going on,” as he emphasized on Sky.

Brandt came to Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2019 and played almost 300 competitive games for BVB. However, the offensive player was not always really undisputed among the fans.
