Eileen Gu, the American freestyle skier, the two Winter Olympics competing for China was considered the favorite for the gold medal in Big Air. But in Livigno it was “only” enough for silver. After Monday’s contest, a reporter asked Gu in the press conference whether she felt like she had won two silver medals or lost two gold medals in these Olympics.

Gu responds to a reporter’s question: “ridiculous point of view”

“I am the most successful female freeskier in history,” she said when asked by the reporter. And continued: “I think that’s answer enough. How can I say this? Winning a medal at the Olympics is a life-changing experience for any athlete. Doing it five times is exponentially more difficult because each medal is equally difficult for me to win, but everyone else’s expectations are rising, right? And as for the situation with the two lost medals, I find it – to be honest – a pretty ridiculous way of looking at it. I’m doing my best skiing. I’m doing things that have literally never been done before and I think that’s more than good enough, but thank you.”

Hope for gold again

The 22-year-old Gu won silver in slopestyle at the Milan and Cortina Games. In Beijing 2022 she won gold in big air and halfpipe and silver in slopestyle. On Saturday she could expand her medal collection in the freeski halfpipe again.
