Raimund refuses to jump: “Don’t take part in this shit”

Olympic champion Philipp Raimund voluntarily gave up his jump, while teammate Felix Hoffmann had just avoided a fall in strong and changing winds shortly before.

The ski jumping World Cup in Oslo, Norway was canceled after one round.

Raimund said to Prevc: “I’m not doing this shit here”

“I noticed that it was getting wilder and more unpredictable,” said Raimund on ARD about his decision not to jump in the first round. You could previously hear on television how the 25-year-old told his competitor Domen Prevc about his renunciation. “Domen, you’re one step closer to jumping, I’m not jumping. I’m not doing this shit,” said Raimund.

After the interview, the ski jumper explained in the ARD interview: “I’m here voluntarily, I want to have fun ski jumping and then I don’t have to worry about whether I’ll get to the bottom safely.”

Hannawald: “You can also play the lottery there”

The Japanese Tomofumi Naito secured victory for the first time in his career, ahead of the second-placed Slovenian Anze Lanisek and the Finnish Antti Aalto in third place. Karl Geiger took eleventh place as the best German with a jump of 127.5 meters. Andreas Wellinger came twelfth. However, for many, the focus was not on the result, but on the health of the athletes.

“I agree with him completely,” said ski jumping legend Sven Hannawald on ARD about Raimund’s decision to forego his jump. “It’s completely wild today.” The 51-year-old added: “You can also play the lottery there.”

National coach Stefan Horngacher saw it similarly. “It was his decision. He went down himself. I think that’s completely fine,” said the 56-year-old. “It’s much harder to go down than to jump down. That’s much worse for the athlete. But he chose to do it. Respect for that.”

Reisch is the best German among women

The jumpers had previously had slightly better conditions at the same location. The Germans also had nothing to do with the top places. Agnes Reisch, the best of national coach Heinz Kuttin’s team, took eighth place when Japan’s Yuki Ito won.

The day before, Reisch, who has been struggling with back problems for a long time, came fourth. “I actually only jump in competitions and can no longer train at home,” explained the 26-year-old.

She and her colleagues still have two World Cup weekends ahead of them – each with ski flying. First we go to Vikersund, Norway. The end of the season is scheduled for March 26th to 29th in Planica, Slovenia.
