The most important thing about the game: Even without their suspended striker Edin Dzeko, FC Schalke 04 regained the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga after just a few hours. The Royal Blues played 1:1 (1:1) at SV Darmstadt 98 in the top game of matchday 27.

After the victories of SV Elversberg and SC Paderborn, S04 leads the table by one point, but the teams have moved even closer together in the promotion race. The Darmstadt team is fourth behind the SVE and the SCP, two points behind Schalke and is therefore not in one of the top three places for the first time since matchday 14.

Goal scorer Edin Dzeko from FC Schalke 04 is now only suspended for one game. The sports court of the German Football Association upheld the second division leaders’ objection to the two-game ban and changed the punishment to a one-game ban plus a fine of 20,000 euros. The Bosnian international only has to take a break in the top game on Saturday (8.30 p.m./Nitro and Sky) at SV Darmstadt 98 and can play again in the following home game against Karlsruher SC.

During the 2-2 draw against Hannover 96, Dzeko hit his opponent Husseyn Chakroun with his high foot on the arm in front of the upper body. For this he was shown a red card for rough play and was sentenced to a two-game ban in a single judge trial. Schalke appealed.

In the club’s opinion, Dzeko did not commit a foul that recklessly endangered the opponent’s health, as the DFB stated in its single judge ruling. This was followed by an oral hearing by the sports court chaired by Stephan Oberholz at the DFB campus.
