At the Winter Olympics, Felix Neureuther criticized the TV direction after athlete Lindsey Vonn fell violently. Now the ARD expert follows up.
Together with Bernd Schmelzer (60), Felix Neureuther (41) commented on the events at the Winter Olympics for ARD. The serious fall of ski racer Lindsey Vonn (41) shocked the sports world – and for Neureuther it remains incomprehensible to this day how the management handled the situation.
The loud screams of pain from the 41-year-old, who, among other things, broke her left lower leg in the fall, caused goosebumps. Also with Felix Neureuther, who commented on what was happening on TV at the time.
During the live broadcast, Neureuther criticized the direction, which kept the cameras and microphones running while the injured athlete received medical care. Finally, Neureuther decidedly put down his headphones. Now he talks about this situation as a TV expert. “These are moments that are extremely painful and where the cameras and microphones have no place at a certain point,” he explains to “Sport Bild”.

Felix Neureuther: “The moment with Lindsey hurt me incredibly”
The ex-professional ski athlete believes: “Dramas are part of sport, that was the harsh reality for Lindsey. She took the risk and was not rewarded for it. That fascinates people. We should try to convey this reality on television, and that is also what Bernd Schmelzer and I want.”
The situation surrounding his colleague Felix Neureuther, who spoke about unequal salaries in skiingvery distressed: “If you know a person personally and then see in person how someone is seriously injured, then you suffer a lot. The moment with Lindsey hurt me incredibly because I know the path she must have taken.”
For this reason, it was important to Felix Neureuther to publicly speak out against the director’s decision: “At that moment I found the way the TV images and the sound were handled very inappropriate and disrespectful to her family. At that moment I didn’t understand that the world director was totally on board with it.”
The athlete currently wants to leave it open whether Lindsey Vonn will be able to return to the ski slopes after the dramatic pictures. She recently asked fans to refrain from asking questions.
