Intermediate status
1. Hurt (USA)
2. Loevblom (SWE)
3. Holtmann (NOR)
1:29 p.m. – AJ Hurt (USA): She has a big lead and is still attacking. At the top it’s almost seven tenths, strong riding. She loses in the middle section, but is still almost half a second ahead of Loevblom – and defends her lead until the finish!
1:27 p.m. – Mina Fürst Holtmann (NOR): The Norwegian opens the top 15. She loses slightly at the top, but at the bottom she is faster than the leading Swede Loevblom. But at the bottom it takes too many turns and is only in second place at the finish.
Mikaela Shiffrin made a costly mistake just before the finish in what might have been by far the fastest run in the first run of the penultimate World Cup giant slalom of the season in Are on Saturday.
In a thoroughly offensive run, the American star athlete was more than half a second ahead of leader Camille Rast from Switzerland at the final split when she came off the track shortly before the finish and had to brake to reach the next gate.
Sihiffrin only in 12th place – how much is Aicher catching up?
Shiffrin finished 12th, 2.29 seconds behind, while Rast and Austria’s Julia Scheib took first and second place, continuing their season-long battle for the GS title.
The slip-up could help Shiffrin’s main rivals in the fight for the overall World Cup – Rast and Germany’s Emma Aicher – make up ground on the American. Aicher was in sixth place after the first round.
