Six “Tatort” editions may not be repeated


Despite allegations against Christian Ulmen, ARD is keeping the “Tatort” episodes with him available in the media library for the time being, and a repeat on TV cannot be ruled out. Other parts of the crime series are under wraps.

Regardless of the Ulmen case, six “Tatort” episodes are currently not being broadcast.

“Crime scene” in the poison cabinet: When the transmitter pulls the emergency brake

In television jargon we speak of the so-called “poison cupboard” – this does not mean a real location, but an internal programming decision. If a production is blocked for certain reasons, it is not allowed to appear on the first, third or digital channels ONE runs and also disappears from the media libraries.

There is no central overview of blocked episodes. Since the “Tatort” series is produced by various ARD broadcasters, each editorial team decides independently whether an episode can continue to be repeated. In addition, assessments can change over time: some episodes remain blocked for years before they are finally included in the program again.

Episode 16: “The Ghost Train Case” (1972)

After the premiere, the episode was not repeated. The reason for this are unclear rights due to the insolvency of the production company, the unusual length and an open ending.

Episode 110: “With Bare Feet” (1980)

The portrayal of a person with epilepsy as violent caused criticism from medical professionals after the broadcast. To avoid misconceptions and stigmatization, the episode was not shown again.

Episode 335: “Death in the Jaguar” (1996)

After the broadcast, there was criticism of the portrayal of individual characters who were perceived as stereotypical or problematic. For this reason, those responsible decided not to show the episode again.

Episode 346: “Crocodile Guardian” (1996)

The episode was notable for its graphic violence and dark content, which was deemed unsuitable for a classic Sunday evening. Concerns about the protection of minors also meant that it was not repeated.

Episode 684: “Where Honor is Due” (2007)

After its first broadcast, parts of the Alevi community protested because the film reproduced religious prejudices. Those responsible then refrained from further broadcasts.
