How and whether Frederiksen can govern the country for a third term is therefore not yet certain: In post-election surveys by the major television stations DR and TV2, unclear majorities emerged in the evening.

Denmark: Preliminary final result probably at night

The three previous government parties – the Social Democrats, the right-wing liberal Venstre and the Moderaterne party of Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen – are now well away from a majority. But according to the forecasts, a classic left-green alliance would also be dependent on the support of another party, in the most likely case the Moderate Party, which is located in the political center.

Around 4.3 million Danes were called upon to cast their vote. A preliminary final result could be determined during election night.
