“Somehow it makes a noise”: Bundesliga coach Manuel Baum ends Sky interview after an uncomfortable question

What’s next for Manuel Baum at FC Augsburg? The interim coach doesn’t want to be looked at and ends a Sky interview with a (more or less) fake excuse.

Will one of the most successful Bundesliga coaches of the current year quit after the season? At FC Augsburg, the official agreement still stipulates that Manuel Baum (46) will return to the second level as youth boss after the season.

Baum ends Sky interview with a smile: “It’s somehow rushing”

Baum initially pushed aside the speculation about himself, but Leopold interpreted the initial “phew” to mean that not everything was set in stone yet. He passed the assessment on to Baum with a smile. And that one? Suddenly I was in a hurry.

“It makes a noise,” he said with a smile on his lips. Baum fiddled with the plug in his ear and declared that he could no longer hear anything.

He therefore ended the interview at this point, leaving the actual question hanging without a concrete answer.

Wagner’s successor Baum does not rule out staying in Augsburg

After all: Baum has actually not categorically ruled out staying there. “At the end of the season we will definitely get together again. And then it’s always about what are the best roles in the club,” he revealed last week after the 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln.

Baum returned to FCA in the summer as Head of Development & Football Innovation. When he took over the job from Sandro Wagner (38) on December 1, 2025, it was agreed that he would switch back to this role after his work as head coach.

In his second term in office, Baum led the FCA out of the bottom of the table in an impressive manner: there are no longer any worries about relegation in Augsburg thanks to a solid cushion from the bottom.
