The Green Party leader puts “words in the mouth” of the CDU man, who becomes angry


On Tuesday evening, Markus Lanz discussed Cem Özdemir’s election victory in Baden-Württemberg and the Greens’ political strategy with his guests.

The Green Party’s top candidate narrowly defeated the CDU with 30.2 percent of the vote. In the ZDF talk “Markus Lanz” Among other things, the fact that Özdemir had not made a direct connection to his party on his election posters was a topic of conversation. Moderator Markus Lanz spoke directly to the Green Party leader Franziska Brantner about this. He asked why Özdemir did not want to have anything to do with his party. Brantner reacted calmly and explained: “He is a Green through and through and is running as such. His goal is to combine a strong economy and bring that together with climate protection.”

Also Thomas Strobl, Interior Minister of Baden-Württemberg and CDU politician, expressed clear criticism of the Greens. He complained that the political climate in the country had been “pretty poisoned” by the Greens. “The Kretschmann Greens, with whom we have been working reliably, trustingly and successfully for ten years now, would never have done that. And unfortunately it doesn’t stop,” said Strobl.

Strobl to the Greens: “This arrogant manner doesn’t work at all”

Green party leader Brantner firmly rejected the allegations and replied: “Mr. Strobl just insinuated that we had commissioned the whole thing.” Strobl interrupted her forcefully and clarified: “Please don’t put words in my mouth that I didn’t say!” The CDU politician also criticized the Greens’ stance: “That’s a pretty high horse you’re sitting on. There was a campaign that you let run!” With a warning tone, he added: “Pride comes before a fall! That’s already in the Bible! And this choice of words, this arrogant manner, I don’t think it works at all.”
