This is what the Strait of Hormuz actually looks like


The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important shipping routes in the world – and at the same time is characterized by a diverse landscape. Striking natural scenery can be found around the strait between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

It is on the Iranian side Hormuz-Island known for its colored hills and Beaches is known, including the so-called “Red Beach”. Also in the region is Qeshm Island, Iran’s largest island, with striking rock formations and mangrove forests. On the Omani side, the Musandam Peninsula dominates the picture: steep coasts, fjord-like bays and opportunities for animal observation.

However, there are clearly defined routes for shipping: two lanes, each approximately three kilometers wide, with a safety distance between them. The total length is around 167 to 195 kilometers.
