Curious scene at a panel discussion under the motto “Make America Safe Again”. US President Trump remembers how Defense Minister Hegseth reacted to his suggestion of war with Iran.
The 79-year-old literally said: “And then, unfortunately, I called Pete and General Caine together and said: ‘Let’s talk’.” Iran is a “purveyor of terror,” said Trump. “We have a problem in the Middle East.”
Trump wanted a “little trip” to the Middle East
He talked to his people about a “little trip” there. Suddenly Trump turns to his defense secretary. Pete Hegseth is not in the picture in the broadcast of the scene. But he was the first to say “Let’s do it,” explains Trump. So in German: “Let’s do it”.
Hegseth was apparently silent. The rest of the speech followed the typical Trump pattern: quick changes of subject and extensive descriptions of his own successes.
